American Art

This summer session we invite students to learn about the works of American artists Mary Cassatt, Florentine Stettheimer, Edward Hopper, Louise Nevelson, Georgia O'Keeffe, and Margaret Bourke White. 



CSA Art Lab | parent-student team | PK-2 Grade

Saturdays 2:00-3:00 PM on the dates above.

This is a parent-student experience, where the student accompanied by an adult family member, creates an art project and explores various art activities based on the theme for the semester. The program concludes with presentation of certificates and an art exhibition.

Parent-student teams are invited to register for all the dates Art Lab is open. The program has limited spaces.

CSA Studio | 3-12 Grade

Saturdays 2:00-4:00 PM on the dates above.

Students are placed by grade and/or skill level into small groups lead by instructors in the different media offered. Students explore an art theme, and create their own art in a sequence of workshops that may include drawing, sketching, acrylic painting, sculpture, digital photography, media lab: art-science-technology projects (STEAM). The program concludes with a presentation of certificates and an art exhibition.

CSA on Tour

This exhibition is curated with selected art from the summer semester and available for public view in the community at various library branch locations, and other public spaces. 

CSA at the Museum

This experience is for selected high school and advanced students from the CSA summer program. Students are invited to participate at this arts program in partnership with the Mennello Museum of American art during the fall semester. Tuition is free.

Class dates and time

The Community School of the Arts (CSA) offers a summer session during selected Saturdays in June and July. 


Hiawassee Branch

7391 W. Colonial Drive, Orlando, FL 32818


Classes and supplies are free thanks to support from Women in the Arts' individual donors, the West Orange Foundation C101 and West Orange Leadership Alumni, Studio T, SunTrust Employees, Fiske Brothers Refining Co.; in partnership with the Hiawassee Branch.


Please register only if you are able to commit to all class dates or not exceed 1 absence.  


We accept new and returning students from any school, on a first-come, first-serve basis. 


After receiving a complete registration, acceptance into the program will be confirmed within five business days to the email address provided. 

Wait List 

Art classes usually fill on the first day of registration. We strongly encourage students to sign up for the Wait List. We contact students in the Wait List when a spot becomes available. 

Drop-Out Notification
CSA kindly requests to be notified immediately if a student accepted into the program needs to drop-out in order to give this opportunity to another student in the Wait List. No notification automatically places a student in a Wait List for the next session.

Late Fee
Arrival and dismissal
There is a one time grace for a tardy. Arriving 10 minutes late or more has a fine of $5.00 per student, per class. 

Absence Fee
There is a limit of 1 excused absence during the session. A fee of $15.00 applies per each absence, per student, after the second absence.  No payment of fines will result in an admissions penalty for next semester. 

Code of Conduct
School Code of Conduct applies. Cell phone/texting: Turned OFF. Earphones, food, and drink are not allowed during class.
